Does your smoke alarm work?

It is vital that residents across Hull test their fire alarms, as recent figures show that almost 1 in 10 people do not own a working smoke alarm in England.

Data also shows that 39% of battery powered smoke alarms and 21% of mains powered smoke alarms fail in fires in residential dwellings.

It is hugely worrying that so many smoke alarms have been found to fail when there have been fires. A working alarm can make all the difference and so it is vital that people ensure that they have a working smoke alarm installed their home.

If you live in a rented property then your landlord is required – by law – to provide a working alarm. If anyone has any concerns then they should contact their local councillor or Humberside Fire and Rescue Services.
