Hull's fishing industry is at risk - Hull Lib Dems are making a stand.
The Kirkella fishing trawler set sail in late January for the first time in 2021 – after weeks of not being able to. It currently has limited access to waters outside the UK, and heavily restricted quotas on how much it can fish - it can't make a living at the moment.
Almost 100 Hull jobs are at risk because the Kirkella - which lands 10% of all of the UK's Haddock and Cod for fish and chip shops nationwide - can't access the seas it used to before the UK left the EU.
This Conservative Government promised fishermen in Hull they'd be better off - but now their jobs are at risk. Urgent action is needed immediately, otherwise the Kirkella, and with it and what's left of Hull's fishing industry could be lost.
Back Hull's fishing industry today and support these local jobs. Sign the petition below.
"I call on the British Government to act urgently to secure fishing rights access with Norway, Svalbard and Iceland. Also, I call on the British Government to provide financial support to the Kirkella and all of its crew for their loss of earnings."
