Pickering Park was left damaged and with rubbish spread throughout the park following an illegal traveller encampment in June. Residents say vehicle access onto the park was, and remains, much too easy.
The park is not meant to have vehicles riding through it and to host encampments. Residents felt they could not make use of the park whilst the vehicles were on the grounds. It shouldn't have been allowed to happen.
Local Lib Dem Councillors have worked hard to ensure that Pickering park gets tidied up. Sadly, that won't stop future damage, rubbish and illegal encampments. The park needs to be secured.
Lib Dem Councillors are calling for Hull City Council to immediately secure the park properly to prevent public vehicular access. Only vehicles that are supposed to access Pickering Park should be able to get access.
Public parks are meant for residents to enjoy for their health and recreation. They need protecting.
