Hull’s Lib Dem councillors are supporting calls for increased renters’ rights.
At a meeting of councillors on Thursday, Lib Dem councillors will call for a ban on letting fees, a rogue landlords register to be set up, compulsory electrical safety checks and a ban on rogue landlords obtaining Homes of Multiple Occupancy licences.
The measures are currently being championed in parliament by Lib Dem peer Baroness Grender in the Renters’ Rights Bill.
Councillor Charles Quinn, who will be leading the calls at Thursday’s meeting said: “About one in five people rent in Hull and that figure is set to get higher.
“It is important that we do all that we can to ensure that people are able to rent safe homes in Hull.
“I am sure the call for more renters’ rights is something that every councillor in the city will be able to get behind.”
