Hull City Council’s Lib Dems call on the Government to make the temporary funding to stop rough sleeping during the Coronavirus lock down a permanent commitment.
Councillor Mike Ross, Leader of Hull City Council’s Lib Dem Group stated that:
“The government’s attempt to end rough sleeping was long overdue, but it can’t just be about helping contain the spread of the Coronavirus alone.
“Rough sleeping still exists in Hull and the financial impact of the Coronavirus will only add further pressures on our society and may see it increase further.
“It makes no sense to stop funding supported accommodation for some of our most vulnerable members of our society as the lockdown eases.
“The Liberal Democrats in Hull call on the Government to also end the Vagrancy Act due to it unfairly penalising people for sleeping rough.”
