Councillor Jackie Dad: Not enough is being done to consult and give warning about changes to bus services

Councillor Jackie Dad has today called for more consultation and advanced warning to service users about changes to bus services in Hull.

In recent months a number of services have been diverted, had timetables adjusted or been withdrawn.

Many of the changes made were done so with minimal consultation and little advanced warning from the Council or the bus operator for those routes.

Last year the 53 bus route was withdrawn with only few days notice to residents. Earlier this month it was announced that the 31 and 52 would be withdrawn and the 110 rerouted.

Only limited notice has been given about the recent changes and that was undertaken only after Jackie asked for it in a meeting with Council officers.

Later this month Jackie will be calling for the matter to be looked into by scrutiny councillors. Jackie will also be writing to the Portfolio Holder responsible and bus operators to ask what more can be done.

Jackie said: “The changes recently announced will again reduce the ability of people to travel around the city at convenient times. ”

“The lack of consultation and advanced warning about changes to bus services is appalling. It simply isn’t on and more must be done.”

“Many people have raised their concerns with me, for instance some people have waited for buses that never turned up because they didn’t know about the changes.”

“I am calling for common sense to prevail and for those in charge of planning bus routes to consult and give more advanced notice of changes.

“It can’t be that difficult to put a poster up on a bus advertising the changes and letting people know where they can go to find out more information.”
