Cllr John Robinson (Avenue Ward) has tabled a motion to March's Full Council meeting (Thursday 21 March) declaring a Climate Emergency and calling for urgent action to limit global warming.
The motion additionally calls on Hull City Council to commit to becoming a carbon-neutral organisation by 2030.
Commenting, John said:
"Climate change is the most pressing issue facing us today. It is absolutely crucial that we work together to reduce emissions and make the transition to a low-carbon society.
"In Hull we are uniquely placed to show ambitious leadership. We have a world-class renewable energy sector on our doorstep and we must continue to support innovative efforts to tackle the climate emergency we're facing."
The Labour Group has also tabled a motion on climate change - we have asked the Labour Group if they will consider combining the two motions. We feel that it is vital the whole Council speaks with one voice on this issue.
