Beverley Gate Consultation: Lib dems urge people to make their voice heard

Opposition Lib Dem councillors have today welcomed new consultation on the future of Beverley Gate.  This follows a high profile campaign led by the Lib Dem group and others during the last few months to force the council to think again over plans to fill it in.

The Lib Dems in Hull have sent out an email to thousands of people across the city urging them to take part a consultation about the future of Beverley Gate.

Leader of the Lib Dem Group Councillor Mike Ross said: "Lib Dems councillors are urging residents across the city to make their voice heard.

"Earlier in the summer we campaigned against plans to fill in Beverley Gate. Hundreds of people filled in our online survey and thousands more expressed their concern.

"Today we are calling for all those who don't want to see us lose one of our historic to make their voice heard."

The consultation came about after Labour councillors were forced to u-turn on a decision to fill in the Beverley Gate site.

In the summer the Labour council unexpectedly announced that they would fill in Beverley gate without any specific consultation on the plans.

After a campaign from opposition councillors and residents the Council has said it would put the work on hold. Since then opposition councillor have been calling for a proper consultation to take place.
