60% of Supported Housing in Hull failed the Councils decent home standard test in "housing scandal"

It has been revealed that Hull City Council’s Supported Housing Review Team has found that 60% of the homes fail the ‘decent homes standard' in their first test which has been called a "housing scandal" the Councils opposition Liberal Democrat Group. 

Across Hull, it was revealed from the Councils first 60 houses inspected at random 60% failed the test pointing to a potential crisis in the quality and the management of the supported housing that homes hundreds of vulnerable people across the city.

Over 7600 Hull EU citizens left in limbo research finds

Research from the local Hull Liberal Democrat Group has found that 7670 EU nationals in Hull have not been granted permanent Settled Status to remain in the UK. 

Local Councillor for Pickering Mark Ieronimo has said that residents in Hull and across the country should be given the automatic right to stay in the city.

Derringham Councillor raises Veterans Village concerns with Government

Following the news that Hull's Veterans Village has been given conditional approval, a local ward Councillor has taken her concerns to the heart of Government by writing to the Secretary of State for Housing Robert Jenrick MP.

In the letter, the Derringham Councillor states that the project is "great" and "sustainable at heart" but also raises concerns with the lack of a "genuine consultation" that led to the conditional approval of the location.

Support needed to protect local workers and prevent redundancies, Hull Lib Dems warn

The Liberal Democrats are urging the Government to extend furlough support until it is safe for workers to return to work. They are also calling for the government to bring forward bespoke packages of support for specific sectors, such as hospitality, or face a significant increase in unemployment.
According to government statistics published this week, 31,900 people in Hull have benefited from the job retention scheme.

73% of Hull residents think September is the best time for schools to fully return survey finds

Following the news that the government has pushed back the date when they expect more children to return to school, a survey by Hull's Liberal Democrats shows support for a later start date.

The survey, that had over 425 respondents, was carried out by Hull's Liberal Democrats and found that the overwhelming majority do not think schools should fully return until September. Cllr Mike Ross, Lib Dem Group leader, has said that the Government must follow the science and listen to people before making their decisions adding that the approach so far has seemed rushed. 

The Survey also showed that 70% of respondents were against the original schools return date of June 1st, with many commenting that the Covid-19 death and infection rates needed to fall more significantly first.
