At the extreme south-west of the city, Pickering ward is named after Pickering Park, which falls within its boundary. It lies between Hessle in the west and Askew Avenue in the east, and includes parts of Boothferry estate in the north and reaches the River Humber in the south. It includes Anlaby Park Road and parts of Pickering Road, Boothferry Road and Hessle Road within its boundaries.

18 Apr 2010 - Road Improvements on Gower Road

Pickering's Lib Dem councillors have been monitoring progress on road improvements in the area and were recently able to update local residents, saying: "As you may have seen work is starting on Gower Road. We have invested in new lay-bys to ease the flow of traffic and make it safer to cross. This should make a big difference to the area."

05 Apr 2010 - The Heart of Boothferry

The Lib Dem team are pleased to report that the new community group Heart of Boothferry had a successful Fun Day on April 1st. There were children’s events Gower Park and the Pop was open on Bethune Avenue. Councillor Abigail Bell said: "We must say thank you also to Connaughts who have agreed to help us refurbish the shop."

24 Mar 2010 - Residents supporting the Pickering campaign

Pickering's Lib Dem team Abigail Bell, Sarita Bush and Claire Thomas recently updated residents on some of the issues they have been campaigning on in the area:

"You may have received a petition from us recently. We have been busy campaigning AGAINST a phone mast on the junction of Pickering Road and Hessle Road. Local residents contacted us asking for our support and we were glad to help.

"We have also campaigned FOR houses on the Bird’s Eye site. Residents told us they don’t want factories and want houses instead. We received an excellent response and will be speaking at planning committee on your behalf. We will keep you updated on both of these issues."

13 Mar 2010 - New Lighting for Boothferry Estate

Street lights have been upgraded throughout Boothferry Estate thanks to funding approved by the Lib Dem team. “We hope people like the improvements,” said Cllr Abigail Bell. Other lighting improvements include repainting the older lampposts.

02 Mar 2010 - Join the campaign for housing on Birds Eye

The local Lib Dem team are working with residents to put the case for housing on the old Birds Eye site. “Residents in the area have attended consultations about the future of the site” said Cllr Abigail Bell. “The message is clear, local people want the land to be developed for housing.”
