Liberal Democrats in Newington
To the west of the city centre, Newington was until the 1930s a suburb of the city. Named after the original Newington Hall on the site of Stirling Street, Newington ward stretches from Spring Bank West in the north to Hessle Road in the south, and from the KC stadium in the east to Askew Avenue in the west. It includes parts of Anlaby Road, Boothferry Road and North Road within its boundary, and major features include West Park and Walton Street fairground. The housing is a mixture of sizes and types, from Victorian to modern. Due to the decline of some parts of the ward, Newington includes part of a Pathfinder Housing Market Renewal scheme, which is to regenerate the area over the next decade.

Resurfacing of streets in Newington continues with the recent completion of Pitt Street off Albert Avenue. 01 Mar 2010 - Lowther Street has been resurfaced
The Lib Dem team are pleased to announce that large sections of Lowther Street have been resurfaced. Inspecting the work today, local councillor Damian Walker said: "this shows that not only have the Lib Dems got to grips with individual pot-hole repairs, but are also investing in the long term maintenance of our roads." This is a far cry from the neglect residents suffered when Labour were in power here.
26 Feb 2010 - Boothferry Park Demolition is complete
The final phase of demolition at Boothferry Park is now complete, local Lib Dem councillors are pleased to announce. Only the floodlights remain on the site now, the buildings having been removed after pressure from local residents and councillors.
The floodlights themselves are still a concern to residents, and local councillors are keen to see them removed too. Speaking to the local media, Newington Councillor Craig Woolmer said: "I still feel more action needs to be taken at the site to improve the quality of life for local residents and will continue to put pressure on the site's owners."
