Liberal Democrats in Marfleet
Named after the historic Marfleet village, this ward is geographically the easternmost and the largest in the city. It stretches from Earles Road in the west to the city boundary in the east, and from Barham Road in the north to the River Humber in the south. Part of the reason that the ward is so large is that it contains most of the city's working docks.

12 Apr 2010 - Lib Dems - 'The Only Ones Who Bother'
As campaigning starts in earnest, Jeremy Wilcock is hearing time and again that it is the Liberal Democrats in Hull East who are the only ones prepared to listen and to help. Here are just a few things people have said:
“How nice to see someone....your lot are the only ones who bother to come round” – Resident, Western Gailes Way
“What a contrast. We wrote to John Prescott, whose assistant said it was a matter for the Council. We also wrote to Jeremy Wilcock, who got on the case straightaway. He used his knowledge and local contacts to help us and show us what we should do to get our problem solved. We are very grateful.” – Mr MD, Victoria Dock
“ I must admit, sir, you are the only politician for Hull East that I have been in contact with who has listened to my cause and agreed to help” – Ms MN, East Hull
“Thank you for replying to my e-mail, which I must say was much better than the telephone call from Karl Turner who looked up our details and rang at a very inconvenient moment and would not go away even when he was told we were busy. Then I received sarcastic e-mails after that which still did not answer my questions” – Ms JM, Longhill Estate.
People all over East Hull are beginning to realise - in Jeremy Wilcock and the Liberal democrats they have a real chance to have an MP who will put their interests first.
02 Apr 2010 - Jeremy Wilcock Urges Siemens to Choose Hull
Liberal Democrat Prospective MP for Hull East, Jeremy Wilcock, wrote to the Chief Executive of Siemens UK this week to urge him to choose Hull as the location for its proposed wind turbine factory. In his letter Jeremy said: "We have a long tradition and excellent skills in marine engineering," and he listed other advantages of Hull as a good location for industry, concluding with a "recht herzliches Willkommen bei uns."
Speaking of the benefits this could bring to Hull, Jeremy said: "This would bring much-needed jobs to a city that has been hit by recession, a city which has not received much help for its industry from the Labour government, unlike other parts of the country."
28 Feb 2010 - Resisting the Holderness Road Telecomms Mast
Liberal Democrat Prospective MP for Hull East Jeremy Wilcock will be appearing before the Planning Committee on Wednesday to urge rejection of an application to erect a 50 ft telecommunications mast and associated equipment cabins on Holderness Road. Although the application has once been rejected, the operator has now lodged a proposal for a larger installation. It is understood that the planning officers are recommending approval, with conditions.
Mr Wilcock said "I can see no reason why our community should have this monstrosity foisted upon them. It will be visually intrusive, it will have implications for road safety, it will adversely affect the residential amenity, and there are major health concerns. There are well-documented cases of cancer clusters in areas adjacent to masts such as these. Must we run this risk in a residential area with schools nearby? Furthermore there is no proven need for such equipment here, and I am not satisfied that alternative sites have been fully researched".
He added "at a time when the Council is making significant progress with its intentions to invest in regenerating this area, why must we be saddled with the prospect of an eyesore which would be a constant reminder to residents and parents of the health risks they would be running. Who would want to move into the area with this thing on their doorstep".
19 Feb 2010 - Labour failing pensioners over Cold Weather Payments
East Hull's prospective MP Jeremy Wilcock has been campaigning for a better system of Cold Weather Payments, criticising the government's current scheme. In a letter to the local newspaper, he said: "Nearly two million pensioners will miss out on Cold Weather Payments triggered by the recent weather. In Hull East alone, we estimate that 8,400 people will be affected."
Typical Labour bureaucracy is at the heart of the problem: "This Labour Government has failed pensioners by creating a complicated system that makes it difficult for them to get the help they so desperately need. The Government should be making every effort to identify pensioners who are missing out - and then get them this extra cash immediately."
31 Dec 2009 - Jeremy Wilcock hails shipbuilding plans
After local media recently reported plans for building eco-friendly ships in Hull, the Liberal Democrat Prospective MP for Hull East has written to the shipbuilder to urge them to go ahead with the plans. In his letter, Mr Wilcock emphasised Hull's maritime tradition and skills, adding: "The prospect of up to a thousand new jobs being created would also have a very positive effect on the local economy, and help further to fuel our economic regeneration."
