Liberal Democrats in Drypool
Named after a village that once stood in the area, Drypool ward is now a combination of industry and housing. Drypool stretches from the River Hull in the west to New Bridge Road in the east, and from Chamberlain Road in the north to the River Humber in the south. Principal routes include Holderness Road and Hedon Road, and in the ward is situated the popular and successful attraction The Deep. Housing is very mixed; distinctive areas include the historic Garden Village and the modern Victoria Dock development, as well as a number of Victorian terraced streets.

News in and around Drypool
06 Sep 2010 - Primary School expansion?
Plans are underway that could see Victoria Dock Primary expanded, after it was oversubscribed once again. Several parents on Victoria Dock contacted Lib Dem councillors Linda, Anjie and Adam, when their children were not originally allocated the primary school.
“These children have now been successful on appeal,” said Anjie. “but real action needs to be taken to prevent similar trauma for other families in future years.” The Council has now met with the Sewell Group and are looking to progress with a plan to extend the school. If this gets the go-ahead the school could be extended from September 2011.
03 Sep 2010 - James Reckitt Avenue bus service
After several years of asking, regular evening and Sunday bus services have been introduced on James Reckitt Avenue. “Many local people have been asking for an extended service in the Garden Village and James Reckitt Avenue area for some time,” said Anjie.
The service has been introduced by Stagecoach, as part of the number 53 bus service - but at the moment it is just a trial. “Services have been withdrawn by bus companies in the past, due to low numbers,” added Linda. “It’s important the service is well used during the trial so Stagecoach are persuaded to keep it on.”
28 Aug 2010 - Trees cut back at Holderness House
Trees have been cut back at Holderness House, behind Acacia Drive. Linda has worked with Holderness House to get the trees cut back, which were encroaching on the gardens of houses on Acacia Drive.
22 Aug 2010 - Bus shelter returns on Stoneferry Road
The bus shelter on Stoneferry Road, opposite Woodhall Street has been re-instated. “We were concerned that the shelter was removed in the first place, after such a long campaign to get one here,” said Anjie. “The issues about its location have now been resolved.”
17 Aug 2010 - New dropped kerbs
Drypool's Lib Dem team have been working to install more dropped kerbs at road crossings across the area. “Several new dropped kerbs have recently been installed in the Barnsley Street area, off Holderness Road,” said Cllr Anjie Wastling. They have also been installed on Ellis Street, near to Ripon Way, to provide a safer crossing to ASDA. However, Linda, Anjie and Adam are continuing to press the Highways Department for a full pedestrian crossing in that area.
